Oren Barzilay was born in Israel and raised in Forest Hills Queens NY. Growing up he was fascinated by New York City First Responders. During his childhood there was an EMS crew that had a staging area right outside his house, the EMS crew and Oren would talk all the time, and he was intrigued by their many stories. At the age of 16 he joined The Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Youth Corp. His parents were proud, and it was then that he decided that EMS was his calling.

While attending Forest Hills High School he took an after school EMT program and is glad that he did, as he has been working as an EMT ever since. He also attended Nassau County Community College and studied criminal justice.

Oren joined NYC EMS in 1995, and in 1997 it merged with the FDNY. In 1999 he wasn't not please with the union at that time, so he decided to get involved. Attending union meetings, learning about policies and most importantly, listening to the needs of the members. Throughout the years, he went up the chain of command within Local 2507 Union. In 2017 he was elected President of FDNY EMS & Fir Inspectors Local 2507. representing over 4000 EMT's Paramedics & Fire Inspectors.
